What is virtual health?

Virtual Health is when you have a consultation with a healthcare provider by live chat, phone or video and your healthcare provider has determined that a physical examination may not be necessary. It can be a convenient solution when you can’t see a healthcare provider face-to-face.

COVID-19 response

In 2020 when COVID-19 hit, we were quick to respond by recruiting over 600 telehealth professionals within weeks to provide targeted covid related health support to people in Australia.

Health navigation

Our team provides health advice and navigation through a range of online and telehealth platforms to support individuals and their families. This can include support after hours and on weekends and public holidays.

Our virtual health capabilities

Health Concierge

Our Health Concierge service supports patients as they prepare for, or recover from, hospital care. Personalised and remote, through Health Concierge, patients can access: regular check-in calls with healthcare professionals before and after their hospital visit, a 24/7 health advice service (by phone or digital chat) run by registered nurses, and a wide range of practical resources and tools to assist with recovery and ongoing health management.

Health Checks

Delivered over the phone by a registered nurse, we remove the barriers that hold people back from getting regular health check-ups. Typically lasting 20 minutes, the call provides individuals with a comprehensive health assessment, along with professional recommendations for health goals and programs or services to assist in achieving those goals. These checks give people a clearer picture of their health today, and the practical steps they can take to improve it.

Amplar Health Online Doctor

Amplar Health Online Doctor is available 24/7 for eligible Medibank members and offers convenient video or phone consultations with a doctor, without the need to visit a clinic in-person. Through this service, patients can access medical advice, obtain prescriptions, and receive medical certificates from the comfort of their own space.

Nurse triage

Our Nurse Triage service connects people with 24/7 clinical support, delivered through our dedicated health contact centers. Handling more than one million calls each year, our registered nurses provide information, advice, and referrals using structured call flows and decision support frameworks—helping individuals get the right care, at the right time.

*Eligibility requirements may apply. Access to a smart phone, internet, and/or phone connection may be required to participate in some virtual health programs. Additional equipment may be required, depending on the specific program.
